How to Buy Hostinger Hosting: Step-by-Step (2026)

What you are actually buying

Hostinger checkout is short — about four screens — but two decisions on it matter more than everything else: which term you pick, and which add-ons you decline. Get those right and the rest is a five-minute form.

The one thing to understand before you start: every Hostinger plan is paid upfront. The “$2.99/mo” headline is the total plan price divided by the number of months in the term. On Premium’s 48-month term that is $143.52 charged once, not $2.99 a month.

The purchase flow, step by step

Step 1: Choose a plan

You will land on a plan comparison page. Three web hosting tiers matter for most buyers:

If you are unsure, Unlimited is the safer default. The extra dollar a month buys daily backups, a dedicated IP, a second CPU core and NVMe storage — four separate problems solved at once.

Step 2: Choose your term

This is the screen where the price changes most. Hostinger offers a long discount term (48 months), shorter terms, and a monthly option. The longer the term, the lower the monthly rate and the larger the payment today.

The 48-month and 12-month figures were checked on 2026-09-17. Hostinger generates the 24-month and monthly rates at checkout and they move with promotions, so read them off the screen rather than trusting a number from an article — including this one.

Rule of thumb: pick the longest term you are confident about, not the longest term on offer. A four-year commitment to a project you might abandon in eight months is not a saving, it is a bet.

Step 3: The domain step

You will be asked for a domain name. Two paths:

• Register a new one. Free for the first 12 months with every web hosting plan. After that it renews at the standard rate, typically $9.99–$15.99/yr for a .com. Free WHOIS privacy (valued at $9.99/yr) is included.
• Use one you already own. Either point its nameservers at Hostinger or transfer the registration. Transferring extends the registration by a year in most cases and requires an EPP or authorisation code from your current registrar.

Step 4: The add-on screen — what to decline

This is where the order total grows. Hostinger’s upsells are not deceptive, but most of them are unnecessary at the entry tier.

The rule is simple: if the add-on is solving a problem you do not have yet, decline it. You can buy almost all of these later, and buying them later costs about the same.

Step 5: Apply a promo code

There is a promo or coupon field on the order summary, usually behind a small expandable link. Enter the code and apply it before you pay — it does not work retroactively.

Step 6: Payment

Hostinger accepts major credit and debit cards, PayPal, and in some regions local payment methods and bank transfer. The full term amount is charged once. If your card has a low limit, the 48-month total on Cloud Startup ($383.52) may not go through — worth checking before you commit to the term.

Step 7: Immediately after checkout

• Check your email for the account confirmation and set a password.
• Turn on two-factor authentication. Your hosting account controls your domain and your site. This is not optional in practice.
• Your hosting is live immediately; the domain takes time to propagate if it was registered elsewhere.

Step 8: Get the site online

From hPanel:

1. Use the one-click installer to deploy WordPress or another application. It takes about a minute.
2. Confirm the free SSL certificate has been issued and is active. It is automatic, but check.
3. Install a caching plugin. On WordPress that means LSCache — it is the single biggest performance lever you control.
4. If your domain is registered elsewhere, update the nameservers to Hostinger’s and allow up to 24 hours for propagation.

Step 9: Diary the renewal

Common mistakes at checkout

• Assuming it is a monthly bill. It is not. Check the order total, not the per-month figure.
• Buying the cheapest plan for a store. Premium’s weekly backups and single core are the wrong foundation for WooCommerce.
• Buying the longest term for an untested idea. The 30-day money-back guarantee covers the hosting fee, but you cannot get a refund on a registered domain.
• Ignoring the domain renewal. It is free for one year, then it is a normal annual cost.
• Skipping the promo box. It is easy to miss and it is a real discount.
• Not checking the data center region. Pick the region nearest your audience at signup. Changing it later means migrating.
