KVM 2 is the plan we recommend to almost everyone buying a Hostinger VPS, and it is Hostinger's own most popular tier for the same reason. Two dedicated cores and 8 GB of RAM at $8.99 a month is a lot of machine for the money, and the renewal at $14.99/mo is a modest step rather than a cliff. The condition is that you can administer a Linux server. If you cannot, the same budget buys a managed plan that does the work for you.

KVM 2 is the middle of Hostinger’s VPS range and the tier Hostinger itself marks as most popular. For $8.99 a month on the 24-month term you get two AMD EPYC vCPUs, 8 GB of RAM, 100 GB of NVMe storage and 8 TB of monthly transfer on a 1 Gbps port, with full root access and a choice of OS template.

The comparison that matters is against shared hosting. For roughly the price of Hostinger’s Cloud Startup, this plan gives you twice the RAM, dedicated rather than shared cores, and complete control over the stack. What it does not give you is anything done for you: no managed WordPress, no bundled email, no automatic SSL and no CDN.

The 24-month term costs $215.76 upfront. The regular rate is $24.49/mo and renewal is $14.99/mo — a 67% increase rather than the fourfold jump the shared plans see. That gentler renewal curve is one of the more underrated arguments for a VPS over shared hosting.

The resources, in plain English

  • 2 vCPU cores on AMD EPYC — enough to run a web application and a database on the same box without them fighting. It is not enough for parallel builds, video transcoding or heavy data processing.
  • 8 GB RAM — the number that makes this tier the popular one. A Node.js or PHP application, a MySQL or Postgres instance, Redis and a reverse proxy all fit with room to spare. Memory, not CPU, is what usually kills a small server, and 8 GB removes that risk.
  • 100 GB NVMe — comfortable for application code, several databases, Docker images and months of logs. NVMe’s fast random reads matter most for database workloads.
  • 8 TB monthly transfer on 1 Gbps — eight terabytes is far beyond what a normal application consumes. Unless you are serving large media files directly from the server, you will not approach it.
  • I/O at 300 MB/s — a consistent ceiling well above shared hosting’s 20,480 KB/s. Predictable disk performance is one of the quieter benefits of a VPS.
  • Unlimited inodes — file and directory caps do not exist here. Disk space is the only storage limit.
  • One IPv4 and one IPv6 address — dedicated to you, which is why the dedicatedIp field on this page reads false: the schema describes a shared-hosting add-on, and on a VPS the address is simply part of the plan.
  • Free weekly backups — infrastructure snapshots. They are useful, but they are not a substitute for application-level backups you control.
  • Firewall management, AI web terminal and public API — configure rules from the dashboard, open a terminal in the browser, automate provisioning through the API.

Who this plan is right for

KVM 2 fits developers and technical founders who want a production-capable server without a large bill. A SaaS side project with real users. A WordPress site with a heavy plugin stack that shared hosting cannot keep up with. A self-hosted service — analytics, a queue, a CI runner, a monitoring stack — or a small company that wants its own database on its own hardware.

It also fits the migration case. If you have been on shared hosting, watched your site slow down during peaks, and confirmed that your CPU and worker limits are the cause rather than your code, this plan removes that ceiling permanently. Dedicated cores mean another customer’s traffic spike is no longer your problem.

There is a less obvious fit too: people already paying for shared hosting plus a service they did not really need. A VPS can replace a managed cron service, an uptime monitor, a form backend or a small search index. Once three or four of those live on the same machine, $8.99 stops looking like an extra cost and starts looking like a consolidation.

Where this plan starts to hurt

The honest cost of a VPS is your time. Patching, monitoring, certificate renewal, firewall rules, log rotation and backup verification are all recurring tasks. On shared hosting they are invisible. Here they are yours, and skipping them has consequences — an unpatched server exposed to the internet is a matter of when, not if.

Two cores is the second limit. It is a good match for a web application with moderate traffic. It is not enough for anything parallel: image pipelines, compilation, video encoding or a busy queue worker will saturate both cores and degrade everything else on the machine.

The third is email. There is no mailbox allowance and no relay. Many people start out intending to run their own mail server and give up after a week of deliverability problems. Decide up front that email lives somewhere else.

Disk throughput is another consideration. The 300 MB/s I/O ceiling is consistent and far above shared hosting’s 20,480 KB/s, but it is still a ceiling. If your workload is write-heavy — a logging pipeline, an analytics database, a media processing queue — you will feel it before you feel the CPU. The answer in that case is usually to move the workload off the server rather than buy more cores.

Finally, there is no equivalent of hPanel for what runs on the machine. Hostinger’s dashboard manages the server itself — power, snapshots, firewall, DNS — but it has no opinion about your web server, your runtime version or your database configuration. Everything above the operating system is a blank page, which is either the appeal or the problem depending on who you are.

Rule of thumb: budget one hour a month for server maintenance per VPS. If that hour costs you more than the price difference between this plan and managed hosting, buy the managed plan instead.

The step from KVM 1 is the one that changes what the server can do. Going from one core and 4 GB to two cores and 8 GB is the difference between a hobby box and a machine that can host a real application. At $2.50 a month, it is the easiest upgrade decision in the range.

  2. Pick the right OS template first. Reinstalling later wipes the disk, so choose the distribution you actually plan to run.
  3. Claim the free domain in year one and point its DNS at the server.
  4. Set up TLS yourself. Let’s Encrypt via Certbot or Caddy is the standard approach and handles renewal automatically once configured.
  5. Add a CDN for anything public. None is included, and a free tier will absorb most static traffic and reduce the load on your two cores.

How much do I pay upfront?

Can I run multiple websites on it?
Yes. There is no website limit and no inode limit; you are bounded by 8 GB of RAM, 2 cores, 100 GB of disk and 8 TB of transfer. A common setup is a reverse proxy in front of two or three application containers.
Is it managed?
No. Hostinger provides the hardware, the network, the dashboard and weekly backups. Everything above that — the web server, PHP or Node, the database, TLS certificates, firewall rules and OS updates — is yours to configure and maintain.
What about email on a VPS?
There is no bundled mailbox service. You can install a mail server, but deliverability from a new IP is difficult and we do not recommend it for business-critical email. Keep email on a hosted plan or a dedicated provider.
