KVM 8 is a lot of machine for $25.99, and the arithmetic is hard to argue with: 32 GB of RAM and eight dedicated cores for less than Cloud Enterprise's introductory rate. It makes sense when you are consolidating several servers or running a database that genuinely needs the memory. It makes much less sense as a first VPS, because the administration burden scales with the number of services you put on it — and at this size, most teams are running a lot of them.

KVM 8 is the top of Hostinger’s KVM range. For $25.99 a month on the 24-month term you get eight AMD EPYC vCPUs, 32 GB of RAM, 400 GB of NVMe storage and 32 TB of monthly transfer on a 1 Gbps port, with root access and a choice of operating system.

The comparison that surprises people is against Hostinger’s own managed cloud line. Cloud Enterprise offers 12 GB of RAM for $29.99 a month. KVM 8 offers 32 GB, fully dedicated, for $25.99. That is the core argument for a VPS at this size: far more hardware per dollar, in exchange for doing the administration yourself.

The 24-month term costs $623.76 upfront. The regular rate is $73.99/mo and renewal is $49.99/mo. The upfront commitment is the largest in the VPS range and the renewal nearly doubles, so this is a plan to buy when you know what will run on it.

The resources, in plain English

  • 8 vCPU cores on AMD EPYC — eight dedicated cores is server territory. Parallel builds, batch data processing, video encoding and multiple containerised services can all run at once without contending. Most teams never reach this ceiling, which is the honest caveat.
  • 32 GB RAM — enough to hold a substantial database working set in memory and still leave room for applications. If you have been tuning queries to avoid disk reads, this is the tier where you can stop.
  • 400 GB NVMe — room for several large databases, container images, application code and a long log retention window. NVMe random reads are what make this useful for database-heavy workloads.
  • 32 TB monthly transfer on 1 Gbps — thirty-two terabytes removes bandwidth from your planning entirely. Only media streaming would approach it.
  • I/O at 300 MB/s — the same consistent ceiling across the KVM range, and far above shared hosting’s 20,480 KB/s.
  • Unlimited inodes — no file or directory caps. Disk is the only storage constraint.
  • One IPv4 and one IPv6 address — dedicated to the server. The dedicatedIp field reads false because the schema describes a shared hosting add-on; on a VPS the address is part of the product.
  • Free weekly backups — infrastructure snapshots. For a machine running production databases, weekly is a floor rather than a strategy.

Everything above the operating system remains your responsibility. At this size that is a meaningful amount of work, and it is the real cost of the plan.

What this plan does not do is make decisions for you. There is no managed layer, no patching service and no control panel for the applications themselves. The value you get is entirely a function of how well you configure what runs on top of the operating system.

Who this plan is right for

KVM 8 fits consolidation. If you are paying for three or four smaller servers — an application host, a database, a worker and a monitoring box — moving them onto one large machine is often cheaper and simpler. Eight cores and 32 GB absorb all of those workloads with room to grow, and you only patch one operating system.

It also fits specific heavy workloads: analytics with large in-memory working sets, search indexes, data pipelines, or a development team that wants a shared build and staging environment. And it fits agencies running dozens of client sites that are individually quiet but collectively substantial.

One more fit is worth naming: teams that need staging to resemble production. Running a full copy of the stack — application, database, cache, search — requires roughly the same memory production does, which is exactly what makes staging on a small server disappointing. On this plan, staging can be a real copy rather than an approximation.

Where this plan starts to hurt

The honest problem with KVM 8 is that most buyers do not need it. Eight cores and 32 GB sit idle for long stretches on a typical workload, and idle capacity is money spent on nothing. If you cannot name the process that will consume the memory, you are buying comfort rather than performance.

The second issue is concentration risk. Putting everything on one large server means one failure takes everything down. Two KVM 4 instances cost slightly less in total and give you fault isolation, at the price of administering two machines instead of one. That trade-off is worth thinking through before you buy.

The third is operational load. A machine this size typically runs several services, each needing updates, monitoring, certificates and backups. Weekly snapshots will not cover a production database adequately. Budget for an external backup service or a scripted dump schedule, and test restores before you need them.

Disk throughput applies here as much as anywhere else in the range. The 300 MB/s I/O ceiling is unchanged from the entry tier, so a workload bound by write speed rather than by cores or memory will not improve at all by moving up. Check which resource you are actually exhausting before spending the money.

There is also no control panel above the operating system, which matters more at this size because there is more to manage. Several services means several update cycles, several sets of credentials, several log streams and several things that can fail quietly at three in the morning. A machine this size usually deserves monitoring you configure yourself.

Price is worth revisiting at the end. $623.76 upfront is a large commitment for a product that requires you to supply the expertise. If you are not certain what will run on the machine, the honest advice is to start on KVM 4 and upgrade when a resource is actually exhausted. Hostinger prorates upgrades, so waiting costs you nothing but the difference.

Rule of thumb: if you are choosing between one KVM 8 and two KVM 4 servers, pick the two smaller ones unless you can tolerate a single point of failure. Isolation is usually worth more than the saving.

Against KVM 4, the price doubles and so does everything else. That is a clean ratio, but it only pays off if you are saturating four cores and 16 GB already. If you are not, the smaller plan is the better purchase.
